As part of the ongoing academic collaboration between the two universities, Lecturer Dr. Abdulrahman Ismail Ahmed, Head of the Department of Physics at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Al-Hamdaniya, participated in the defense of a master’s thesis in the Department of Physics, College of Science, University of Mosul. The thesis, submitted by graduate student Alaa Abdulkhaliq Mahmood, is titled:
“Preparation of Thin Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) Films by Chemical Bath Deposition and Study of Their Structural and Physical Properties.”
The defense session was attended by the Dean of the College of Science at the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, along with several faculty members of the department and postgraduate students.
The thesis presented the methodology for preparing ZnSe thin films using the Chemical Bath Deposition (CBD) technique, employing two different zinc ion sources. It also examined the effect of thermal annealing at 250°C on the structural and optical properties of the films. XRD results indicated that the samples were polycrystalline, while FESEM and EDX analyses provided detailed insights into surface morphology and elemental distribution. The optical properties were investigated within the wavelength range of 320–1000 nm, where the energy bandgap was found to be 2.7 eV and increased after annealing.
The thesis further explored the fabrication of a p-CdTe/n-ZnSe junction and the study of its electrical characteristics, including threshold voltage and ideality factor.
The examination committee consisted of:
Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ahmed Hammoud (Chair)
Asst. Prof. Dr. Iyad Jiyad Jirjis (Member)
Lecturer Dr. Abdulrahman Ismail Ahmed (Member)
Supervised by: Asst. Prof. Suha Abdullah Najm (Supervisor and Member)
At the conclusion of the defense, the Dean of the College of Science presented a letter of appreciation to Lecturer Dr. Abdulrahman Ismail Ahmed in recognition of his distinguished scientific contribution and participation.
