Computer Science is one of the modern sciences, and due to its importance, it has become part of curricula in both primary and secondary education. This required the preparation of qualified teachers to undertake this task. Therefore, the Department of Computer Science has taken on this responsibility by preparing specialized teachers in computer science for pre-university education, in line with quality standards, and by providing them with professional training. As a result, they have become capable of competitiveness, scientific research, innovation, community participation, meeting labor market needs, and upholding the ethics and values of the profession.

The Department of Computer Science was established in the College of Education / University of Al-Hamdaniya in 2011 with a single academic stage. Soon after, it expanded to include four academic stages, which led to an increase in the number of students. The department initially began under the leadership of a head of department delegated from the University of Mosul, supported by several external lecturers. Classes were held in the building of St. Paul Service Center in Qaraqosh / Al-Hamdaniya District.

The first cohort graduated in the academic year 2015–2016, and the department continues to provide knowledge and supply the labor market with promising scientific talents in the field of computer science in service of our beloved country.
